European PVC thermal-acoustic windows: thermal and acoustic comfort

Peace and quiet in your home is now possible. Thermal-acoustic windows for your comfort.

Discover how European PVC thermal-acoustic windows combine profile engineering, glazing and airtightness to contribute to your home's thermal and acoustic comfort.

01 · What is a thermal and acoustic window?

A window is much more than glass and profiles.

Its thermal and acoustic performance depends on a complete system. Tap each component to see its function.

Profile

Frame and sash structure. Its material and design determine how much heat is transferred through the opaque section.

02 · Thermal properties of PVC-U

The science behind thermal comfort.

A

Thermal conductivity

Indicates how easily a material conducts heat. Low-conductivity materials, such as PVC-U, transfer heat more slowly than metals. Even so, the material alone does not determine a window's performance: geometry, glass, seals and installation all matter.

B

Multi-chamber geometry

The internal chambers of a profile divide the air and can help limit heat transfer. Each system has its own design, and more chambers alone do not guarantee better insulation.

C

Reinforcements

The type, material and shape of the reinforcement influence the frame's thermal performance. We attribute reinforcement technologies to a system only when documented in the manufacturer's data sheet.

D

Sellado y hermeticidad

Gaskets, joints, closures and junctions control air infiltration. This is a different phenomenon from conduction: a window can have a good profile and still let drafts through if it is poorly sealed.

E

Thermal bridges

These are areas where heat finds an easier path: the frame, the edge of the glass and the junction with the wall. Identifying them is part of the design; quantifying them requires a specific calculation.

03 · Uf, Ug and Uw

Understand your window's thermal performance.

Complete window

Thermal transmittance of the entire window (window): combines frame, glazing, spacer and dimensions according to EN ISO 10077.

The three values are not interchangeable. A lower U-value indicates less heat transfer under the conditions of the applicable test or calculation method.

Profile values according to the official data sheet; the installed window's performance depends on the glass, dimensions, and installation. We also work with folding systems (technical data sheet).

05 · Glass and solar control

Temperature is also controlled through the glazing.

Sunlight enters as both light and heat. The solar factor (or SHGC) indicates how much of that energy passes through the glass; visible light transmittance indicates how much light passes through; Ug indicates how much heat is transferred due to a temperature difference.

Solar control and thermal insulation are not the same. Insulating, low-emissivity (Low-E) or solar control glazing combines these properties differently, and not all reflective glass behaves the same way.

We only publish glass values with the manufacturer's data sheet.

06 · Warm climate vs. cold climate

Controlling heat is part of designing for comfort.

In warm climates, the challenge is to limit incoming heat. Facade orientation, glass area and glazing type influence how hard the cooling system must work. It is a relevant factor in cities such as Montería and Villavicencio.

07 · Humidity and condensation

Understand why your windows fog up.

When an interior surface is colder than the air's dew point, vapor condenses. Relative humidity, ventilation, temperature differences and thermal bridges in the frame and glass edge all play a role.

08 · Climate control and energy

Your climate control system and your windows work together.

Glass area, orientation, solar factor, transmittance, air infiltration, climate, space use, desired temperature and equipment efficiency determine consumption. We do not provide savings percentages without an energy study.

10 · Acoustic insulation

Comfort is not just felt in the temperature. It is also heard.

Glass, profile, locks, seals, installation and noise frequency determine how much sound enters. We do not promise decibel values without testing the exact configuration.

Frequently asked questions

What is a thermal and acoustic window?

A window designed as a complete system—profile, glass, seals, hardware and installation—to contribute to thermal and acoustic comfort. Its performance depends on the chosen configuration, not on a universal figure.

What is the difference between Uf, Ug and Uw?

Uf is the thermal transmittance of the frame, Ug of the glass and Uw of the complete window. They are not interchangeable: a good Uf does not guarantee a good Uw if the glass or dimensions are not suitable.

Is solar control the same as thermal insulation?

No. Solar control acts on radiation entering through the glass; thermal insulation acts on heat transferred due to temperature differences. Glass can have both properties to different degrees.

How much will I save on air conditioning?

We do not provide savings percentages without an energy study of the space. Consumption depends on climate, orientation, glass area, use, desired temperature and equipment efficiency.

Why do windows fog up?

When the interior surface of the glass or frame is below the air's dew point, water vapor condenses. Humidity, ventilation and thermal bridges all play a role.

Do you sell aluminum windows?

No. Cerrasoluciones works exclusively with European PVC. Aluminum appears on the site only as an educational reference.
